{"id":3937,"date":"2014-05-04T20:13:19","date_gmt":"2014-05-05T01:13:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bismarck-mandan.com\/?p=3937"},"modified":"2014-05-04T20:13:19","modified_gmt":"2014-05-05T01:13:19","slug":"bismarck-tribune-article-shows-racism-bigotry-hatred-hostility-and-abusiveness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/?p=3937","title":{"rendered":"Bismarck Tribune article shows racism, bigotry, hatred, hostility, and abusiveness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bismarck-mandan.com\/images\/2014\/05\/bistrib_20140504_1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3936\" alt=\"bistrib_20140504_1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bismarck-mandan.com\/images\/2014\/05\/bistrib_20140504_1.jpg\" width=\"385\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2014\/05\/bistrib_20140504_1.jpg 385w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2014\/05\/bistrib_20140504_1-115x150.jpg 115w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2014\/05\/bistrib_20140504_1-231x300.jpg 231w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 385px) 100vw, 385px\" \/><\/a>I love North Dakota history, and the truly fascinating stories of many North Dakotans remain untold or in danger of disappearing into total obscurity.\u00a0 That&#8217;s why I&#8217;m such a big fan of <a title=\"Opens in a new tab\" href=\"http:\/\/bismarcktribune.com\/search\/?l=50&amp;sd=desc&amp;s=start_time&amp;f=html&amp;byline=By%20CURT%20ERIKSMOEN\" target=\"_blank\">columns by Curt Eriksmoen for the Bismarck Tribune<\/a>.\u00a0 But today&#8217;s column about Hilaire du Berrier treads on dangerous ground with its Hostile and Abusive\u2122 content.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bismarck-mandan.com\/images\/2014\/05\/bistrib_20140504_2.jpg\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3935\" alt=\"bistrib_20140504_2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bismarck-mandan.com\/images\/2014\/05\/bistrib_20140504_2.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"82\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2014\/05\/bistrib_20140504_2.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2014\/05\/bistrib_20140504_2-150x24.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a>As you can read in the text of the above graphic, Curt makes a couple of racist, bigoted, hateful, hostile, and abusive comments about the neighboring Native American people:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He calls them Sioux;<\/li>\n<li>He accuses them of bravery;<\/li>\n<li>He asserts that they accepted dangerous challenges.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What, you say?\u00a0 Why the offense?\u00a0 <em><strong>Exactly.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 These are the very same things that have been targeted and banished by the NCAA with regard to the UND Fighting Sioux logo and nickname.<\/p>\n<p>I haven&#8217;t been to a UND hockey game since the banishment of the logo and nickname, but before a video used to play prior to the games.\u00a0 It described the brave heritage of the Sioux warriors and the admired characteristics that were inspiration for the UND Fighting Sioux moniker.\u00a0 I can\u2019t forget the quote by Archie Fool Bear of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe: <em>\u201cWe went to a hockey game, and they talked about the courage and integrity of the Sioux people.
