Well, not exactly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bismarck-mandan.com\/images\/2014\/08\/dq_ip_3663.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4127\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bismarck-mandan.com\/images\/2014\/08\/dq_ip_3663.jpg\" alt=\"dq_ip_3663\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2014\/08\/dq_ip_3663.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2014\/08\/dq_ip_3663-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2014\/08\/dq_ip_3663-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a>Few things can strike fear in the hearts of summer-loving Bismarck residents than the closure of the DQ on Broadway and Washington.\u00a0 We can kid ourselves endlessly until the CLOSED sign shows up in the window, meaning that cold temps and seemingly endless winters and school years are right around the corner.\u00a0 So you can understand why the sight of this sign can make hearts jump when passers-by spot it!\u00a0 In this case, however, a little context is needed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bismarck-mandan.com\/images\/2014\/08\/dq_ip_3661.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4128\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bismarck-mandan.com\/images\/2014\/08\/dq_ip_3661.jpg\" alt=\"dq_ip_3661\" width=\"489\" height=\"326\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2014\/08\/dq_ip_3661.jpg 489w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2014\/08\/dq_ip_3661-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2014\/08\/dq_ip_3661-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 489px) 100vw, 489px\" \/><\/a>The job market is an interesting one in North Dakota, and has been for some time.\u00a0 I remember even several years ago, before the oil boom, hearing from a friend how he&#8217;d receive such poor service when traveling to the northwestern part of the state.\u00a0 It was explained to him that &#8220;people who can pass a drug test are working in the oil industry&#8230;what&#8217;s left is who&#8217;s taking your order, preparing your meal, or providing your customer service.&#8221;\u00a0 Again, that was <em>before<\/em> the big &#8220;oil boom&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Now there&#8217;s simply a shortage of employees, period.\u00a0 HELP WANTED signs adorn shop windows all over the state.\u00a0 We&#8217;re blessed in that regard.\u00a0 With the onset of school as well, labor in certain types of positions will probably be even harder to obtain.\u00a0 For example, I recently heard of Arby&#8217;s paying $20\/hr for certain positions in Williston.\u00a0 Well, how many $5 roast beef sandwiches do they have to sell to pay for that labor?\u00a0 It gets to be quite a pickle, I&#8217;m sure.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully we still have other DQ options in Bismarck-Mandan.\u00a0 Now, when the store on Highway 83 closes for the season, <strong><em>then<\/em> <\/strong>it&#8217;ll be time to panic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Few things can strike fear in the hearts of summer-loving Bismarck residents than the closure of the DQ on Broadway and Washington.\u00a0 We can kid ourselves endlessly until the CLOSED sign shows up in the window, meaning that cold temps &hellip;
