{"id":5283,"date":"2016-09-13T00:26:28","date_gmt":"2016-09-13T05:26:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/?p=5283"},"modified":"2016-09-13T00:26:28","modified_gmt":"2016-09-13T05:26:28","slug":"journey-to-aylmer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/?p=5283","title":{"rendered":"Journey to Aylmer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42318-20_hdr.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5282\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42318-20_hdr-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"aylmer_42318-20_hdr\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42318-20_hdr.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42318-20_hdr-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42318-20_hdr-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a>I had the opportunity to stop into a former North Dakota town, Aylmer.\u00a0 I suppose that&#8217;s how Southerners like my wife say &#8220;Elmer&#8221;.\u00a0 Anyway, there isn&#8217;t much to indicate that the town used to be there except for an old metal sign at the railroad crossing and a few deteriorating buildings.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42438-40_hdr.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42438-40_hdr-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"aylmer_42438-40_hdr\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42438-40_hdr.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42438-40_hdr-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42438-40_hdr-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a>I remember reading somewhere that this was a combination general store, blacksmith, and something else at one time.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve seen photos of it with the roof intact, but sadly those days are long gone.\u00a0 Here you can see a piece of it which the wind has carried quite a ways from the structure.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42336-8_hdr.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5280\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42336-8_hdr-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"aylmer_42336-8_hdr\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42336-8_hdr.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42336-8_hdr-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42336-8_hdr-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a>It looks like, and I think what I read backs this up, things were added onto this building as needed.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a shame that it&#8217;s crumbling now.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42472-4_hdr.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5279\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42472-4_hdr-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"aylmer_42472-4_hdr\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42472-4_hdr.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42472-4_hdr-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2016\/09\/aylmer_42472-4_hdr-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a>There are also a couple of other buildings within a stone&#8217;s throw, such as this house with a barn that still has patches of a brilliant blue paint.\u00a0 It too is suffering from a rooftop deficiency.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This was a fantastic trip.\u00a0 I had picked up my kids from camp in my new-used truck, which absolutely loves the back roads.\u00a0 For the weekend I&#8217;d clocked around 950 miles, and this was the cherry on top.\u00a0 At some point, although I&#8217;m busy as heck at work and with freelance stuff, I&#8217;ll have to show more from that weekend.\u00a0 I still have a few more photo targets I hope to visit while we still have some nice weather!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I had the opportunity to stop into a former North Dakota town, Aylmer.\u00a0 I suppose that&#8217;s how Southerners like my wife say &#8220;Elmer&#8221;.\u00a0 Anyway, there isn&#8217;t much to indicate that the town used to be there except for an old &hellip;
