I mentioned previously how we took a short jaunt to the Gray House in Sims, and I showed how the brick face on one side is falling away in the fashion of many other parts of the home. This post is an homage to the detail and workmanship of this fine home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Naturally, the brick steals the show. But there’s plenty of other craftsmanship on display here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I can cut a beautiful arc with a tablesaw, and have created all kinds of other horrific woodworking disasters, so I’m particularly enamored of the woodworking done here at the Gray House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I can’t guess what was originally nailed here, but if it had been my house it would have said something along the lines of “Kawasaki Racing”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s this liner along the peak of the roof…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These corner pieces are nicely adorned, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Masonry meets woodworking. This is the only window which is this intact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notice the fine cuts which form this window frame. Looks like the remnants of green paint. I didn’t lick it to see if had lead in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s a lot going on here, so I’ll just let the photo speak for itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sure, this house is photogenic from a landscape photograph point of view, but there are so many thrilling close-ups, too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My mom pointed out that the roof looked pretty cool, too, with all the protruding nails. I imagine this house had shakes instead of shingles, but those are long gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking in the front window, it’s plain to see that the interior is coming apart, too. I have a general rule about attempting to go inside structures like this: don’t. I make very rare exception, which had included this house many years ago, but it doesn’t look safe or prudent to do so. I did photograph that chair from the inside when it was in one piece, <\/a>though, when I first got into photography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After poking around the outside of this house, it was time to move on down the road as time was not our friend. I’m glad we were able to visit this house, and I hope it’s still around for a while longer. Many of my favorite photo places no longer exist, so it’s nice to see one that’s standing the test of time a little better than the others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
