The first thing I spotted in the morning was this farm.  You can see how hazy the skies were from all that Canadian and Pacific Northwest wildfire smoke.  This was a month ago, and much of the summer has been the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2024\/08\/fallen_farm_15513-5.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8186\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2024\/08\/fallen_farm_15513-5.png 500w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2024\/08\/fallen_farm_15513-5-150x100.png 150w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2024\/08\/fallen_farm_15513-5-452x300.png 452w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>I wanted to get a closer look, but it wasn&#8217;t in the cards that morning.  I had other targeted photo destinations to reach and a destination with a set timetable &#8211; picking up a kiddo from camp &#8211; so I just did the telephoto thang, marked it in my GPS &#8220;for next time&#8221;, then moved on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2024\/08\/fallen_farm_15507-9.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2024\/08\/fallen_farm_15507-9.png 500w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2024\/08\/fallen_farm_15507-9-150x100.png 150w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2024\/08\/fallen_farm_15507-9-452x300.png 452w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>In the morning and the evening, when it helps provide diffusion and color, this wildfire smoke is actually of great benefit to a photographer.  Shooting landscapes isn&#8217;t as good, because the skies are uninteresting, but the smoke is really helpful for objects on the ground.  In this case, I just accepted the sky issue while reveling in the fact that I didn&#8217;t have any shadows obscuring my old farmstead subjects!
