I love finding surprises like this along the back roads of rural North Dakota, and this particular trip was especially fruitful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2025\/02\/fallen_farm_17474.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2025\/02\/fallen_farm_17474.png 333w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2025\/02\/fallen_farm_17474-100x150.png 100w, https:\/\/www.bismarckmandanblog.com\/images\/2025\/02\/fallen_farm_17474-200x300.png 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 333px) 100vw, 333px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s colder than it looks in this photo, but it was a beautiful day to capture this beautiful old house and admire the craftsmanship that went into building it. I suppose space was a factor in why the stairs in older homes were so steep.  These would have required a healthy dose of caution while ascending or descending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don&#8217;t enter buildings like this, by the way. Just around the bend an old schoolhouse was waiting, an old automobile was settled into the field, and I still had plenty more to discover en route to my destination.
