Instead of meeting constituents, Pomeroy meets with a few dozen hapless Democrats, admits who he represents

You may remember this YouTube video in which I berated Congressman Earl Pomeroy for not holding any open public meetings with his constituents. Well, some events actually showed up on his website this week, as shown above! I decided to pop in and see if I could ask a question.

I found out, as did other people who attended similar “meetings” across North Dakota this week, that it was not any sort of public meeting, “town hall”, or other such event. This was a Democrat political rally, period. It’s not depicted as such on his website, but that’s exactly what it is. Apparently Conrad and Dorgan are going to show up and endorse him over and over again at these things. Yeah…that should really drum up support.

Speaking of support, it doesn’t look like Earl’s enjoying any. I showed up to find plenty of parking at 6:20, ten minutes before the start of the event. Around 6:28, people started trying to get the few participants to bunch up in front of the stage to at least look like there were some attendees. Heidi Heitkamp made repeated pleas for people to come up toward the front. It was embarassing.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the nearly empty room. Also empty was Ms. Heitkamp’s rallying cry, which consisted of so many uses of the phrase “failed policies of the Bush Administration” that I was ready to yell “DRINK!” at the sound of the next one! By this time we were ten or fifteen minutes into the event, and it was obviously a flop. None of our notorious Congressional delegation had showed up yet, I had church at 7, and it was obvious there wasn’t going to be any Q&A for me to ask Mr. Pomeroy my question. I decided to give up on my chance to get a free t-shirt for spotting Earl Pomeroy and left to go to church.

As I left the Elks building, I saw this black beast parked out front. I couldn’t help but think that it looked like an industrial strength hearse, an appropriate metaphor for the way Earl Pomeroy’s campaign for reelection has been going this year. I might add that there’s the possibility that then entire group from inside the building could fit into this one truck!

By the way, if you read the text of Congressman Pomeroy’s “events” website, you’ll see that he loves meeting with “the folks that I represent.” You can now see who those “folks” are: Democrat Party first, period…just like in Washington. This same Party was apparently unable to even wrangle more than a few dozen people into getting all Hopey-Changey for Pomeroy on the night of his big endorsement by Conrad and Dorgan.

If it wasn’t so good for North Dakota, it’d almost be sad. Who knows? Maybe Earl was able to bring in a few hundred loyal union fans fifteen minutes late, after my camera and I had split the scene. Not likely.

Don’t worry, I’m sure the Congressman will get some cushy insurance job once he’s bounced out of office…after all, those evil insurance companies are his biggest donors.

Angry Earl Pomeroy claims “dozens of meetings” …but with whom? Not the public

Since my last YouTube video (which has had roughly twice the views of the Pomeroy campaign ad it parodies) was so fun, I thought I’d do another one to have some fun with a very serious matter: Earl Pomeroy’s unwillingness to meet with the public. This comes after he’s had closed-door meetings around the state, including one at Aetna here in Bismarck, with maybe one or two approved questions being asked.

My summary of the debate as a whole:

– Earl was ANGRY. Wow.

– Rick Berg essentially said, “Washington is spending too much money, money it doesn’t have. I want to help fix that.”

– Pomeroy essentially said, “Look at all the millions I bring back to North Dakota! And Rick Berg wants to drill in the Badlands.”

– Pomeroy continues to try to accuse Berg of “voting to privatize Social Security”, something that I believe Pomeroy once supported, even though Berg (as a state legislator) could not vote on. He did vote on a non-binding state resolution to urge President Bush to address the concerns that Social Security is in trouble.

UPDATE: RJ over at Regular Guy Rant has done a commendable job of documenting Earl Pomeroy’s support for privatizing Social Security. Check it out! I can’t believe the hapless Earl Pomeroy would even want to mention Social Security with a record like this one…

– Rick Berg got Pomeroy to admit that Social Security is in the red. This after Pomeroy spent the entire debate insisting that it was just fine, that there were no problems with it, and even that it’s OVERfunded.

– Pomeroy clearly lost this one, and I think it’ll be interesting to see what he does for the next one. In the mean time, enjoy the video. I had fun making it.

“I’m Earl Pomeroy, and I serve the Democrat Party – NOT North Dakota!”

Despite his recent ads where he tries to seek credit for voting with President Bush on the unfunded Medicare Prescription Drug entitlement, Earl Pomeroy is no friend of George W. Bush (and, as it turns out, hard-working North Dakotans).

Here’s the roll call of the votes to adjourn the session instead of passing such things as a budget, any of the 20 or so appropriations bills floating around Congress, or extending the Bush tax cuts (which are so popular that they were trying to call them the Obama tax cuts when there was a possibility of them passing).

Notice that if Earl Pomeroy had voted in a way corresponding to his latest ad campaign, this would not have passed. At the end of the day, you can always count on Earl to be a good Democrat lap dog and vote the Pelosi way.

By the way, despite the credit that Earl seeks for supporting President Bush, you may want to listen to this audio of Earl I grabbed from 2008 at the Dem-NPL convention in Grand Forks:

Let’s not forget that time a few years back when Earl Pomeroy called President Bush a clown, when he didn’t realize he was on camera:

So…I guess we can discern the following about Earl Pomeroy:

– when he thinks nobody is watching, President Bush is a clown;

– when he has an arena full of Democrat cheerleaders, President Bush perpetuated a “man-made, self-inflicted disaster” upon our nation;

– when his political career is on the line, Earl Pomeroy feigns support for President Bush hoping we’ll be fooled by his lies.

Sorry, Earl…we’re not buying it. Your days of acting one way in Washington and portraying yourself another way back here in North Dakota are OVER. Get used to civilian life, sir…it’s only weeks away.

You’ve got about as much chance of winning this as the Powerball!

I love the way Adam Jones and the gang at the North Dakota Republican Party have been injecting humor into this year’s political races. Here’s a real gem, from today’s press release:

HAVE YOU SEEN REP. EARL POMEROY? Neither have we.

After voting with Nancy Pelosi 97 percent of the time and serving as the decisive vote for Obamacare, Earl thinks he can hide his record-by not showing up to talk to voters. The North Dakota Republican Party is therefore today announcing a contest to find him.

Participants who can tape a video clip of Pomeroy at a public forum or town hall will win an exclusive “Where’s Earl?” T-shirt. Eligible entries must show Pomeroy at a town hall event or public forum answering questions about healthcare or the stimulus. The video must be of an event occurring between today, September 13, 2010 and Election Day. Contestants can submit their video to contest@ndgop.org.

Pomeroy has held zero town halls over the Congressional recess for the second year in a row, and his campaign website has shown no upcoming events for over a month. Needless to say, this makes his false accusation that Rick Berg is ducking debates and hiding from voters especially rich in irony.

Pomeroy may think he can hide from voters. We’re betting he’s wrong. Help us prove it, and submit your video today!

Of course, this all stems from the fact that you haven’t been able to attend a town hall meeting or other public gathering where Earl Pomeroy is available to constituents since early in the debate over the government’s illegal takeover of the health care system. Here’s another example of the hypocrisy:

There is nothing I enjoy more about campaigning than getting around North Dakota to meet with the folks that I represent.

But the fact remains that he is NOT getting around North Dakota and NOT meeting with the “folks” that he represents! I called his office asking if there would be anything coming up where a citizen could address his Congressman. The answer: Nope.

So, if you’re looking to win a free t-shirt, maybe you’d have better luck with the Powerball (not that I condone gambling). Chances of Earl Pomeroy appearing in public AND taking questions about federal spending and Obamacare are probably less than getting struck by lightning while cashing your Publisher’s Clearing House check!

Career politician Earl Pomeroy makes a big deal out of Rick Berg’s “26 YEARS” as part-time state legislator

I’m on vacation and got too long a nap, so I was up late with some spare time. I thought I’d put some observations on the hapless Pomeroy campaign into video for y’all. Enjoy. If you don’t see playback controls above, move your cursor over the image and they’ll appear at the bottom.

It’s been a rough week for Earl Pomeroy. First his campaign gets caught trying to have an NDSU College Republicans display removed, which they have to hastily deny.

Then it comes out that Pomeroy’s campaign has a stalker following Berg around and videotaping him. It’s turned out to be pretty fun in that people can talk into the camera and finally feel as if they’re getting a chance to talk to Earl Pomeroy, who isn’t showing his face in public at all.

Really. Check it out, go to Pomeroy’s site and click Upcoming Events. It says, “There is nothing I enjoy more about campaigning than getting around North Dakota to meet with the folks that I represent.” Well, it’s turning out to be a repeat of last year’s August without a single open meeting between Earl Pomeroy and his constituents.

Pomeroy’s been losing in the polls for months, consecutively, and all he has left is to get the labor unions and national Democrat donors to start running ads to scare the elderly and farmers. You can always expect the Democrats to pull out the decades-old ploy of how the Republican will take away their Social Security. What’s hilarious is that Pomeroy’s trying to imply that someone who’s been in political office for a shorter time is the career politician. Really, Earl? Keep ’em coming.

(Is it any wonder that the New York Times says his campaign needs “political triage” at this point?)

(UPDATED) Sunset for North Dakota’s energy industry? Byron Dorgan’s committed to it

If you paid attention during the 2008 presidential campaign, you likely heard candidate Barack Obama foretell that he would bankrupt the coal industry, and that under his energy policies “electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.”

For decades now, North Dakotans have been duped into thinking that we need to continue to send Byron “Skybox” Dorgan, Kent “Countrywide” Conrad, and Earl “The Pearl” Pomeroy to Washington on our behalf, because they’ve accumulated so much seniority and clout. They’ve grown very bold and comfortable in this role, scaring North Dakotans into repeatedly sending them back to office and doling out federal dollars when they return. They warn that any replacement would have to start from square one, wielding no effective influence on behalf of North Dakota and the interests of our state. So…what have we gotten for that? Zero. Well, unless you count the government health care takeover…

Now on his way out the door, and employing a “scorched earth” policy toward his country and the North Dakotans who enabled him, Senator Dorgan has these foreboding words for our nation’s energy industry:

“Regulations are coming in the future. If coal does nothing, coal will lose.”

North Dakota’s economy has remained robust during the national recession for a few different reasons, one of which is the solid energy industry. The policies of these liberal Democrats will decimate that. We don’t have the next election to use as an incentive to bring Byron Dorgan back to earth…what about his cohorts? I don’t think they’re any more interested in North Dakota’s economic future than he is. Once their re-election chances are sealed one way or the other, can we expect such candor from Conrad and Pomeroy?

UPDATE: This story from KFYR TV news shows that Byron Dorgan and his hairpiece are completely detached from reality. He’s pushing legislation to push people toward electric cars, while simultaneously trying to strangle the industry which generates much of the electricity that would be used to charge them. He also ignores the load that charging a bunch of these magic vehicles would put on an already strained electric grid.

That’s why I’ve always considered liberal/progressive/Democrat policies as suicidal. He’s attacking us from both sides: making energy production more expensive and difficult, while forcing us into a corner with his pie-in-the-sky electric vehicles (which ought to be FANTASTIC in a North Dakota winter). Senator Dorgan is long overdue for replacement, as are his like-minded comrades in Washington.

As an animator I like subtleties such as the one above. Notice how Earl’s path follows the outline of North Dakota’s border rather than crossing it! Interested parties may remember that you couldn’t find Earl Pomeroy anywhere near his constituents last year during the government health care takeover debate. Priceless.

The big deal about this video is actually the statistic that Earl Pomeroy, he of such “clout and seniority” on our behalf back in Washington, got only FOURTEEN contributors from North Dakota last reporting period. A more telling statistic I cannot find. I expect this sort of thing to hold true at the polls too, even if ACORN can get a bunch of college kids to vote twice (at home and at school) in November. Oh, and the video says that one of those fourteen was a Pomeroy.

I guess one doesn’t have to be a hapless liberal to write a catchy song about a North Dakota politician! Unlike the one targeting Dave Weiler, however, this one is true.

I suppose it’s appropriate to have a whopper like this near the offices of professionals like Earl Pomeroy, Byron Dorgan, and Kent Conrad. This billboard is part of an orchestrated campaign to fool people into supporting “The American Power Act” – by not letting you know that it’s a repackaging of the Kerry-Lieberman “Cap & Trade” act, designed to decimate our nation’s energy industry. Energy…say, isn’t energy a very significant part of North Dakota’s economy?

Not only is this bill a total disaster for North Dakota and the nation at large, but it has another few interesting flaws:

The “Renewable Energy World” website, which is vested in the sorts of “green energy technology” bandied about by liberals bent on killing the energy industry, has an article titled “American Power Act Contains Little Direct Support for Renewables.”

The “World Climate Report” website, which purports to be “the Web’s longest-running climate change blog”, has an article posted which calls the American Power Act “climatologically meaningless.” For instance, even if this bill worked like clockwork (which never happens), they might lower temperatures by a couple hundredths of a degree over the next hundred years!

The folks at American Thinker have an article posted which points out that the Act is merely “a sugar coated version of Cap and Trade.”

Hey, guess what? It gets better! If you actually visit “PassTheAmericanPowerAct.com” you’ll get the site above. Looks pretty conservative and jingoistic, doesn’t it? The only thing it seems to be missing is a flattering photo of George W. Bush. There’s only one problem: It’s a sham.

That web address actually bounces you to the servers of DemocracyInAction.org, a liberal activist group that apparently hosts all kinds of different websites for “progressive” causes. Here’s how they describe themselves:

“DemocracyInAction, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization itself, believes technology can be a decisive force for social change. We exist to empower those who share our values of ecological and social justice to advance the progressive agenda.”

Operated by a company called Salsa Labs, and oriented around the same sort of “community organizing” as our hapless President. Here’s a list of their clients, which includes a bunch of liberal nonprofits like Code Pink and a bunch of liberal Democrat political campaigns.

If I had the money, I’d simply rent the billboard next to it and put up something like this. It wouldn’t take much, and it would help put some truth right next to the Big Lie that is trying to kill jobs and take control of more Americans’ lives in the name of the Global Cooling Warming Climate Change hoax.

Washington Times catches up with me on Earl Pomeroy’s ties to Big Labor

I’m up to here in filthy Labor Union money!

I’ve been decrying Earl Pomeroy’s indebtedness to big labor unions for longer than I can remember. Just last week I posted about this, so scroll down if you missed it. Labor unions, which represent less than seven percent of North Dakota’s workers, are the majority of Earl Pomeroy’s top career-long contributors. They’re bankrolling a lot of those ads for Earl that are flooding the airwaves lately. And they’re getting what they paid for!

I’m glad to note that finally the mainstream media is picking up on this, most notably this article in the Washington Times. They’re connecting the dots too, and it’s really not that tough once someone starts paying attention. The problem (and reason why North Dakota elects Pomeroy, Conrad, and Dorgan) is that nobody has been paying attention for a long, long time. Times have changed, and they don’t bode well for Earl.

The legislation mentioned in the WT article can be summed up like this:

– First, Labor unions wrangle and cajole benefits from employing businesses like a giant tick bleeding a dog dry. They do whatever they can to force these employers to provide benefits far and above what normal working families receive, and which are in many cases unsustainable.

– Next, when they’re on the verge of bringing the employer to the point of closing up shop and leaving all those union employees to twist in the wind, they go to folks like Earl Pomeroy to write up a government bailout.

– In the end, the business gets screwed, the union hacks get what they want, we taxpayers get the bill, and Democrats get money and rent-a-thugs for their election campaigns.

We’re watching, Earl. We’re doing the math and watching your every move. You’d better start looking for a new job come November. Maybe one with a big, fat labor union benefits package!

Earl Pomeroy once again votes AGAINST North Dakotans, FOR the labor unions that bankroll him

Anyone see a trend here? The labor unions own Earl. He represents them, not you.

In an effort to silence political speech they don’t want heard this November, the Democrats are ramming through legislation to stop organizations such as the grass-roots “TEA-Party” style groups from making their collective voices heard in the fight to save our nation and our freedom. Among the distinguished enemies of free political discourse: our own Earl Pomeroy, naturally.

Who’s fueling the engines of President Obama and the leftist Democrat Party in their attempt to “remake” our nation? Labor unions. Public sector labor unions in particular, but they’re all in the same boat. Guess who gets an exemption from this new law they’re passing? If you said “Labor unions” you’re wise to the game the Democrats are playing.

It’s no wonder that Earl Pomeroy represents Big Labor instead of North Dakota; after all, look at the list of his top donors throughout his political career! Every one of those check marks indicates a labor organization bankrolling Earl Pomeroy’s re-election and buying his votes.

By the way, labor union representation in North Dakota is still under seven percent according to the government’s Bureau of Labor Statistics. Even if every able-bodied union member in North Dakota was sending regular checks to Earl Pomeroy, they couldn’t compete with the out-of-state interests that own him.

It’s time to get Earl Pomeroy out of office. He has NOT represented North Dakota well over the past seventeen years. He’s a rubber stamp vote for the leftist Democrat Party. Send this post, the graphic, or a link to Earl Pomeroy’s donation information on opensecrets.org to your friends and family. Educate your fellow North Dakotans on what Earl Pomeroy’s been getting away with for nearly two decades. Let’s toss him out of office and elect someone who will represent North Dakotans and our interests instead of big out-of-state labor unions who want to wreck this nation and don’t care what happens back here in North Dakota!
